The tools coming with netCCM Studio allow you to develop components. Such a component encapsulates a piece of software code that defines a certain behaviour. This piece of code can be developed with your trusted tools; therefore, existing code can be easily integrated. In addition, a component contains meta-data managed by the netCCM tools that provide all the necessary information to deploy the component. These comprise the interactions of the component in the form of ports, dependencies on other components or libraries and a description of the provided functionality.
Applications are created with the Assembly Editors which assembles the components. The Assembly Editor is netCCM Studio’s graphical modelling tool. It does not define a concrete application, but rather an application model that is called Assembly. An Assembly defines which components shall make up the application, the constraints that apply to a possibly distributed execution of the application, and the way the application has to be initialised.
The generators that come with netCCM Studio automatically generate applications from an assembly, for instance single-user/single-place applications, Web-services or libraries that can be integrated into other programs.
